Enhance your teaching with this Defining Progressivism lesson! The purpose of this assignment is to illustrate to students how “slippery” the term Progressivism is. While it is a good term to help generalize a rather scattered era of American history, it is important that students understand the flaws of the term. Each of the above people, events, or laws was considered progressive. In addition, not all were consistent in our conception of Progressivism. This is an assignment where students are presented with several primary sources and they need to decide if the era was truly progressive after studying the definition of progressivism. This makes a great activity at the beginning of the Progressivism unit!
